Brazil – 26 September 2002

We are being met at 9 this morning for an all day tour including the city, Christ redeemer and sugar loaf. The day looks clear so I pop up to the roof before breakfast to grab a picture in case it clouds over later. Our guide for he morning (Pedro) arrives early & tries to phone Didi to find out where we are – they manage to track her down on the roof as the rest of us make our way down from breakfast.

We start off going back around the lagoon to the train up to Christ redeemer- the weather has stayed good so we get a wonderful view (including a capuchin monkey who appears in a nearby tree while we are waiting to descend . when we get down we drive down Vidigal, Leblon & Ipanema beaches before arriving at a restaurant called ‘Mios’ for a 3 course lunch. We are met here by Cesar who is our afternoon guide who takes us downtown stopping at the São Sebastian cathedral before arriving at sugar loaf for the 2 stage cable car ride to the top for more great views.

Then its back to the hotel to eat & prepare for tonight’s show. This is the Platformas “Brasil 500” celebrating 500 years of Brazil in an extremely colourful show with some amazing dancers and fantastic costumes
