Thursday 28th August 1997 – Vancouver

We bid goodbye to Telegraph Cove this morning, but not before adding chipmunk to our list of wildlife. Lunch is scheduled for Campbell River, but it is only 11:30 when we get there, so we vote to push on, finally stopping in Qualicum Beach, at a pub/restaurant with a marvellous sea view – food is good too! A short journey on to a market and craft centre in Coombs, noted particularly for keeping goats on the roof, then another shortish ride to Cathedral Grove, a national park region in the heart of the rain forest, with trails through the Maple, Douglas Fir and Cedar, some over 300 years old! Squirrels and Banana Slugs are added to our wildlife list.

We cross the Island through beautiful mountain scenery until we get to Long Beach, where we stop to get out and go and see the sea. No one actually goes paddling, though Denis and I come close when a wave comes in a bit faster than expected. It is only a short drive then to our accommodation in Tofino, at the Weigh West Resort. Digna goes to book us in to the restaurant, but is so hungry she eats before we get there! – A delightful meal before retiring to large rooms with TV and private bathrooms!
