4 November 2002 – Norway

Having arrived at Heathrow almost bang on the check in time of 8.30, I am informed the flight has been delayed half an hour to 11- by the time I have had some breakfast it is delayed to 11.40 & by the time we take off it is just gone 12 – our 2 hour wait in Oslo is now 35 minutes, in which time we have to clear immigration and customs and get our bags rechecked in. Since there are several connections affected the aircrew give out information – our flight is not mentioned – then they make another announcement. “We understand a lot of you are going to Bodø. We don’t have any information at the moment, so they will either hold the flight for you, or leave on schedule.” Fortunately, it turns out to be the former although it is still a rush.

We leave the airport in two buses – the one I am on is under the charge of Tom Walmsley – who was a student on my first trip to Mull! We stop once at a railway station cafe and again on the side of the road to look at the Northern lights before arrival at Tysfjord.
