Antarctica – Tuesday 23rd November, 2004

Awake to a glorious sunny day cruising through the icebergs of the reassuringly named ‘Erebus and Terror Gulf’. We are heading for the Ice shelf which is around James Ross and Snow Hill Islands – however just like home it is the wrong type of ice and we can’t reach Snow Hill, nor can we land at James Ross – we do go for a Zodiac Cruise along the ice shelf although there is not much wildlife we do see a Crab Eating Seal (which eats Krill not crabs…) resting on an ice flow. After lunch we cruise past Devil’s Island and Vega Island (with it’s spectacular waterfalls) and on to Vortex Island where we do another Zodiac trip visiting an Adelie penguin colony and also finding a Leopard Seal (also Antarctic Tern and Snow and Storm petrels.)
