Antarctica – Wednesday 17th November, 2004

Today starts very misty. The advice for avoiding sea sickness is to focus on the horizon but there isn’t one!

I take a light breakfast of dry toast sitting in a sheltered spot of the aft deck then write a few postcards-don’t know when or where I’ll get to send them! The fog starts to clear and some sea birds appear – giant petrel and black browed albatross- after lunch it is sunnier, and we also see cape petrel and a juvenile wandering albatross.

Our landing sites in the Falklands will be Carcass Island and New Island – the omission of Port Stanley is met with a mixed reaction – generally joy from those who have been before and disappointment from the rest.
